Use what ever client you like. Click the reply button but then, before you send your tweet, put a period or anyother bit of text in front of the @ sign. So it looks like this:

.@techlifeweb have a nice day!

Yes, now everyone sees the reply but that is how it should be and people should deal. It is the whole premise for my article on How I Find People to Follow.
